One of our key paintings, El Greco’s The Disrobing Of Christ, has been on loan since the start of the season. This week it has returned to Upton House.
The painting first went to the Hamilton Kerr institute to have glazing placed over it, to protect it whilst it was away. Then it made its way to Toledo for an exhibition to celebrate 400 years since El Greco’s death. The painting sat alongside the original image, in El Greco’s hometown.
Our paintings are requested for exhibition several times a year. Although it is very exciting that our collection is still internationally requested, we always miss them while they are away! When the paintings come back to Upton it feels as if they are returning home. The return of the El Greco was no different!
It made its way down the drive….
And finally hung on the wall
It is great to have it back. Why not see it for yourself soon?
