As May begins, signs of warmer weather (dare we mention summer?!) are definitely showing at Upton, giving us simple pleasures and much to look forward to.
Our neighbouring Blackwell Wood, just behind the Sunken Garden, displays a carpet of bluebells in May and our ‘Bluebell Walks’ are a pleasure to look forward to and are this Sunday! As ever, the weather isn’t in our hands. In previous years the ‘Bluebell Walks’ have been rained off on the ‘Bluebell Weekend’. This year, we are hopeful that we will see the beautiful blue carpet in the wood on the special weekend.
Let’s hope for some sunshine!
After the wonderful display of galanthus, crocus and narcissus in our Orchard, the fruit trees burst into blossom. It is a great pleasure to walk through the Orchard each day and discover even more blossom peeping out. It won’t be long before the trees are full of different shades. The Orchard is a great place to sit and relax, so why not pop along with a picnic one weekend in May?
The warmer weather has provided a magnificent show of tulips around the garden. They add lots of vibrancy to the South Terrace. The wisteria growing on the south side of the house is just beginning to display its delicate lilac flowers and is a joy to behold.
With the sunshine and warmer weather bringing more great delights to the gardens at Upton, let us know what you spot on your next visit.
Meanwhile we are busy working on borders in the garden and having a cup of tea after installing our new ‘Shell Art Exhibition’. Sitting and enjoying cups of tea is, of course, a great time to start planning our next exhibition!
