As you may have read from our last blog post, we are getting ready to re-open our Picture Gallery after installing a new rooflight in 2013! So, what have we been doing to get it back to normal I hear you ask?

Scaffolding in the room

Here is a photo of the room whilst the building works were going on. The only item that stayed protected in the room was a walnut table, as we couldn’t lift it out! The floor and walls were all protected and the paintings were removed.

First job, remove the tyveck covering the walls and floor protection.

Second job, after a good hoover and clean, wax the floor to protect from the 70,000 people walking on it this year!

Third job, give the walls a hoover to remove any dust from the building works, using a low suction hoover and gauze to protect the wall coverings.

Fourth job, lay out the underlay for the carpet and roll the rug out again.

Fifth job, re-build an awkward display stand, trying to remember which way is front.

I think we are just about ready for the paintings to be hung once again, this time with a slightly different focus for some of them…watch this space to find out more…
