Merry Christmas to all of our lovely supporters, those that have visited this year, plan to visit next year, or follow our activities from afar! December was a busy month for us at Upton House and Gardens; dressing the property for a 1930’s Christmas, setting up a Christmas market, welcoming over 4700 visitors as well winter work in the Gardens and the House too! Father Christmas saw over 450 children and we wished Merry Christmas to over 110 of our volunteers with Christmas lunches.

To bring the 1930’s Christmas alive this year we called on our oral history volunteer to gather some quotes about what Christmas was really like with the Bearsted family at Upton. We discovered many things about the family; how they celebrated Christmas with the estate workers, servants and locals.
The Bearsted family had a huge tree in the Picture Room in the 1930s
It was a huge team effort to bring Christmas to Upton in this magical way, here is a video of everyone that was involved!
We hope you have had a lovely Christmas Day and enjoy a lovely break whatever you do! We will be busy looking towards what 2014 holds for Upton House and Gardens soon, but in the meantime you can come and visit between now and New Year and every weekend in January, we hope to see you soon!
